Breedlove Oregon Concert Acoustic/Electric 2014

Breedlove Oregon Concert Acoustic/Electric 2014

Breedlove Oregon Concert, natural finish, made in USA 2014. Here's one from my personal stash! Breedlove make stunning guitars, tucked away in Bend, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest of USA. The company was started by a pair of gents who spent a lot of time at Taylor, so there's some shared heritage there; for a while the two companies even shared some parts apparently. The Oregon Series aimed to use timber from their local neighbourhood... it's one of the only places in the world sitka spruce grows, which they've paired with a more unusual tonewood for the back and sides in American myrtlewood, as well as some local hard rock maple for the neck. We get myrtle here in Tassie too, but this is a different species, with a vibrant yellow colouring and a  gorgeous detailed grain. It's a small body, but a combination of the lightweight bracing, unique hardware and tonewood choice mean this has unreal volume and bass for a guitar of this size. It's extremely clear and responsive, bringing out the detail and nuance of every note and chord and rewarding more intricate playing. The neck is a slim C, carved from quarter-sawn rock maple... an unusual choice for an acoustic. It feels a lot like a modern Strat neck in profile and texture; it's very intuitive if you're used to playing electric. The ebony board feels great under the fingers, and has a nice little subtle figure through it to boot. This was my main gigging guitar for several years, and it absolutely excelled as a solo instrument owing to being so comfortable and easy to play and sounding so rich and clear. I wasn't too fond of the original pickup, so it's gained an LR Baggs Dual Source system, with both a mic and a piezo, that works a treat and sounds very natural. The pinless bridge, quirky headstock and herringbone binding are all nice little details; this is a very classy item. It's almost certain I'll regret moving this one on, but my loss is your gain, and this will surely make your life more enjoyable for many years to come.
