Cane LP-Style Cherry Sunburst 1993

Cane LP-Style Cherry Sunburst 1993

Cane LP style, cherry burst, made in Korea around 1993. Cane was a shortlived stencil brand under the Samick umbrella, produced at their Incheon, Seoul factory in the early-mid 1990s. At the time, Samick was producing those now well regarded MIK Epiphone models, so the factory was certainly familiar with guitars in this genre. The thing that really stands out on this one straight away is the flame maple top: holy crap, it's beautiful. It's got a lovely depth an variation to the figuring and pops perfectly under the aged cherry finish. The neck is an easygoing slim-60s style profile, arrow-straight and capped with a pretty piece of streaky rosewood; it feels great in the hands. Tone-wise, it's pretty convincing. There's a big dark, gooey midrange on tap, with a warm complexity and juicy fullness that loves a dense chord or big bend. Epiphone branded stuff from this era is going up pretty steadily, so this is a relative bargain and will surely make someone grin.
