Fender Japan '57 Precision Bass PB57-53 Black 1993

Fender Japan '57 Precision Bass PB57-53 Black 1993

Fender '57 P, black, made in Japan 1993-4. It's been suggested the red guard on this might be a nod to the Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) signature, but I can't confirm or deny that. What I can confirm, however, is that this is a terrific bass. The '57 style Precision features a chunky D-shape maple neck, which feels reassuring and classic in the hands and adds a certain chime and slice to the attack. There's heaps of natural fat, rounded low end on deck and a growly, warm midrange with plenty of attack and clarity. The body is light but balanced enough to not suffer 'neck dive'; perfect for longer sets or high energy stage shows. We love a good P around here and this one is definitely a tasty biscuit.

Model: Fender '57 Precision Bass (PB57-53)
Year: Japan, Fujigen plant, 1993-4 (serial N061184)
Finish: gloss black, 2-ply red metallic guard
Body: basswood
Neck: 1-piece maple, 34" scale, 7.25" radius
Weight: 3.875kg
Mods: guard replaced
Pickup: Fender Japan PB-Single split single coil
Case: none

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. Headstock is pretty clean, just some minor dimples on the end. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on the back only. The back has a decent bald patch along the belly carve as well as some widespread dimples and scuffs. The sides have a few marks: dimples on the top horn, a decent pair of chips in the 'waist' area on the top side, dimples in the elbow area and near the rear strap pin, a pair of chips and some dimples around the jack, dimples on the bottom horn. The front is bit tidier, just just widespread dimples and some play wear on the guard and top horn. Overall: good condition (6.5/10).

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets are looking tidy, 8/10 for fret life left. Set up with fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.
