Fender Japan '70 Reissue Precision Bass PB70-70US Aged Sonic Blue 1997-00

Fender Japan '70 Reissue Precision Bass PB70-70US Aged Sonic Blue 1997-00

Fender '70 P, aged sonic blue, crafted in Japan 1997-00. I've said it before, but here we go again: the only finish better than surf green is a heavily yellowed sonic blue. There's something about the slightly uneven way a finish yellows that gives the colour a life and depth you can't get from the factory... this really does look supremely slick, summery, superb... etc. This is the only one of these high-end P models in this finish we've ever had; it's a special-order only offering. This packs some proper tonal bunch too: the alder body and USA pickup deliver a bright, punchy, thick and immediate take on the classic P thump. The neck is slightly slimmer than a standard Precision with a 40mm nut, which feels great. It also features some really pretty flame maple and a very dark chocolate piece of rosewood... as if it didn't look good enough already. What a sweetheart!

Model: Fender Precision Bass '70 Reissue, PB70-70US
Made: Japan, 1997-00, Tokai plant (serial O005700)
Finish: sonic blue (heavily yellowed), 3-ply cream guard
Body: alder
Neck: maple with rosewood board, 34" scale, 7.25" radius, 40mm nut
Weight: 4.1kg approx
Mods: none
Pickup: Fender USA P-Bass Vintage split single coil

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. The headstock has a couple of little scuffs on the end. Neck is pretty clean. The back is pretty clean, just a couple of very minor scratches and some checking lines starting to appear on the back edge. The sides have a handful of minuscule marks on both horns, near the knobs, near the rear strap pin and on the shoulder area; none are very noteworthy. The front has slight stickers fade marks on the shoulder and near the jack. The front is pretty clean, just a minor scratch coming off the back of the bridge and on the top horn and some very light play wear. Overall: very good condition (8.5/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets look pretty good with some very minor wear; 9/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 45/105s.
