Fender Japan JPGW Modded Telecaster Hand-Rubbed Relic Sunburst 1984-87

Fender Japan JPGW Modded Telecaster Hand-Rubbed Relic Sunburst 1984-87

Fender Japan '72 Reissue Telecaster, modded and refinished by JPGW, made in Japan 1984-87. This is an absolute stunner of a thing! When we got this Tele, it was finished in a nasty amateur-job purple-crackle finish; quite awful, but the seeds of potential were there. Jon Parsons got to work on it; it's got new pots, jack and wiring, a Fender CS 'Twisted Tele' neck pickup and a Seymour Duncan Qtr Pound in the bridge, and a delightful hand-rubbed relic burst finish. The finish is amazing; the detail on show through the thin oil top coat is alluring. Being thin, oil based and satin, it's designed to wear quickly; with a good few hours of play it'll wear to gloss around the high-contact spots, then it'll really come into it's own. The pickups deliver the goods too: neck position is bright, articulate and full, with a touch of extra spank and a creamy breakup; the bridge is thick and saucy with heaps of chime and spank. These 80s era early Fujigen-made Telecasters are spectacular in the hands; this one feels incredibly alive and really rings brilliantly with the lightest touch. We've had plenty of questions to the tune of "when are you getting Jon to do a Tele?" Well, here's your chance, there might not be another one!

Model: Fender Japan '72 Reissue Telecaster TL72-55
Made: Japan, Fujigen plant, 1984-87 (serial E680028)
Finish: hand-rubbed relic sunburst, oil finish, 3-ply white guard
Body: basswood (approx total weight 3.6kg)
Neck: maple with maple board, dot inlays
Mods: pickups replaced, wiring replaced (orange drop cap, USA jack and CTS pots installed), re-finished
Pickup: Fender Custom Shop 'Twisted Tele' (neck pos), Seymour Duncan Quater Pound (bridge pos)
Case: new high quality gig-bag

Cosmetic condition notes: relic finsh. There's some legit wear here from 30 years of play: some necks and dents on the back of the neck and headstock, some play wear on the fretboard, pitting and scratching on the chrome parts, a bunch of minor dents on the front and back of the body. The finish being brand new has a worn look around the edges, but is in perfect shape. It's designed to age quickly with play, so it'll rub-up nicely over a year or two and look even better. Overall: very good condition (8/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly, note the recent upgrades and re-wire as listed above. Frets look fine, normal wear but height in them and pretty even, 6.5/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 10/46s. Nice~
