Fernandes TEJ-75 Black 1988

Fernandes TEJ-75, made in Japan around 1988, gloss black. You see plenty of 'super Strat' style guitars made in Japan in the late 80s, but the 'super Tele' is a seldom-seen delicacy. Here we have legendary Japanese maker Fernandes' take on that somewhat sacrilegious idea: take a Tele, add a pointy angled headstock, a tasty two point tremolo, a modern style neck with an almost-flat board and originally a pair of active pickups. The pickups have been switched out for a passive HS combo, but it's otherwise largely retained it's original 80s awesomeness. As you'd expect, it's a quick and agreeable player; the neck is more 'moderate' in profile than many shred-friendly numbers and it's very easy to get along with. The lightly aged gloss black bound by cream is a tasty aesthetic; you can't go too wrong there. All in all, a great little riff machine.

Model: Fernandes TEJ-75
Made: Japan, 1988 approx (no serial)
Finish: gloss black, cream binding
Body: alder
Neck: maple with rosewood board, 25.5" scale, 15.75" radius
Weight: 3.490kg
Mods: pickups replaced, body routed for humbucker, knobs replaced

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. Headstock has a small chip on teh end and bottom edge. The headstock joint is visible through the finish but it's stable and isn't a crack; no headstock breaks. The neck has no major marks. The back has a few dimples on the bottom and top edge and some light scuffs, no major marks. The sides have a few small marks: dimples on both horns and the shoulder and some small chips and scuffs near the jack. The front is tidy, just just some dimples around the outside edge, scuffs on the shoulder and some play wear above and below the strings. Overall: very good condition (8/10).

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. Frets have almost no wear, 9/10 for fret life left. All electrics tested and working properly. Setup with fresh 12/54 Moonshiners strings and tuned to drop C.
