Greco CEG-220 Black 2010

Greco CEG-220, black, made in Japan around 2010. This is a more recent offering from Greco, and it's safe to say they certainly didn't lose their touch as the years went on. It's a take on the Les Paul Custom, so it's got the necessary bling: headstock inlay, big pearl block inlays, ebony fretboard, seven-ply binding... yep, that'll work. There's a couple of distinctive touches too in the off-centre moustache headstock and the wheel-style truss adjuster. Aside from looking good, this really delivers in the feel and sound department. The neck is a chunky '58 style shape, so it's beefy and round but pretty intuitive in the hands. The body and neck are both made from solid African mahogany, known for it's consistency and density, which translates to a whole lot of presence, complexity and fullness in the sound. There's no maple cap, so it's dark for an LP, but there's still plenty of clarity and eloquence under a light touch. Crank the gain and hit the bridge pickup with a big chord, and it's like being caught in a cheesecake store explosion: creamy, rich, flavoursome and raucous all at once. Oh yeah, it's heavy... are you surprised though?

The back has a few minor scuffs in the middle of the body and some dimples in the elbow area, back edge and near the neck joint. The sides have some minor dimples on the top horn, elbow area and near the jack. The front has some dimples in the elbow area, around the bridge and knobs as well as some standard play wear on the horns and guard. Overall: very good condition (8/10)

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some normal wear but they're pretty even and freshly polished, 7/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 10/52 Moonshiners strings.
