Greco EG800GS Gold Top 1979

Greco EG800GS, gold top, made in Japan 1979. These late 70s 'golden era' Greco LPs are wonderful guitars, especially the high end ones like this. First up: there was a huge sticker on it at some point, removed quite some time ago, and it took some finish with it. I considered refinishing the top, but opted to leave it as-is, as it has a vibe about it and the original faded gold is such a cool finish. There's also a pretty good chip on the bottom horn; not sure how it happened but I like to imagine it was stolen by pirates and dropped in the stoush to reclaim it. This model originally came with soapbar style single coil pickups, but this one has been blessed with a set of Firebird style humbuckers. It sounds superb: heaps of clarity, eloquent attack and sparkling note separation, balanced by a nuanced, open midrange with a creamy smooth bottom end. The neck is gorgeous too: these 3-piece style necks stay super straight and strong and the slim profile is an effortless companion. 'Lawsuit' gold top LPs are increasingly rare and pricey, so if you're down for one with a few stories to tell that really does play and sound brilliant, here's your new ragtag buddy.

Model: Greco EG800GS
Made: Japan, 1979 (serial D796441)
Finish: gold top, cream binding, natural gloss back and sides
Neck: mahogany 3 piece, rosewood board, slim 60s style profile
Body: mahogany, sandwich style, maple cap
Weight: 4.480kg
Mods: pickguard removed, pickups replaced, one knob replaced
Pickups: Greco Firebird style mini humbucker x2
Case: none

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. Headstock has some minor marks on the end and back. Neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples only. The back ha a few dimples and scuffs, no major marks. The sides have small dimples around the whole body, as well as a pretty decent chip out of the bottom horn; see the pics. The front has a large mark where a sticker was removed, there's no residue but it took some finish with it when it came off. Aside from that, just a few dimples around the body and some play wear on the horns. Overall: good condition (6.5/10).

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some normal wear but they're pretty even with plenty of height, 7/10 for fret life left. Wearing fresh 10/52 Moonshiners strings.
