Ibanez LGB30 George Benson Sunburst 2019

Ibanez LGB30 George Benson Sunburst 2019

Ibanez George Benson LGB30, sunburst, made in Indonesia 2019. I have a funny memory of arguing with my Mum about whether Geroge Benson was cool in my teens... she still holds that 'Masquerade' is an all time classic. George Benson was the first artist to ever get a signature model from Ibanez, with the GB10 debuting in 1977. You can still get a new GB10 today, but he's such a jazz guitar heavyweight that Ibanez now offer six guitars in the GB series. This one gets some tasty details: bound ebony fingerboard, classy inlays, flame maple back, hefty rosewood tailpiece... it's not a guitar one plays wearing a faded Sum 41 T-shirt, let's put it that way. Ibanez's Super 58 pickups have been around for a few decades now and still deliver the goods: pristine clarity, thick. The tone is juicy for jazz, but it's snappy and expressive enough to dip it's toe into blues or country and come out on top. There's a lot to like here, and it comes with a good case. Maybe my Mum was right after all, George does know a thing or two.
