Yamaha PB400RA Fretless Blue Burst 1986
Yamaha PB400RA, blue burst, made in Japan 1986, fretless. This is a funky thing. These PB models replaced the late 70s 'Pulser Bass'; they're a fairly vintage correct take on the classic Precision Bass. There's some nice appointments: ash body, reverse tuners, hot 50s style pickup, spiral bridge... it's classy. The build quality on these 80s MIJ Yamahas is always great, so the fit and finish is super tidy and it feels very reassuring in the hands. This one has been to see our buddy Jon Parsons in Launceston and had a conversion to fretless. Jon's work is spotless, so the board is feeling and looking superb. The tone on offer is great: heaps of classic P-thump and growl with that rounded, talkative fretless attack. The finish is classically 80s but classy in it's own way; it's a good looking item. Overall: it's a great vintage fretless P for an exceptional dollar.

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. Headstock is pretty clean, no major marks. The neck has a couple of minor dimples on the back, smooth and clean in the hands and no major marks. The back has a few minor scuffs but looks nice and clean. Sides are good, just a light scuff near the jack. The front is nice and tidy too, just some minor dimples around bridge and play wear on the guard and top horn. Overall: excellent condition (9/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some minor wear, around 8/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 45/105s.
