Yamaha SA-1200s Semi Hollow Brown Sunburst 1982

Yamaha SA-1200s Semi Hollow Brown Sunburst 1982

Yamaha SA-1200s semi hollow, brown sunburst, made in Japan in 1982. Damn, this is incredible! This model is almost exactly the same as the very famous SA-2000, the only differences are the plain inlays and lack of headstock motif and the hardware being chrome instead of gold; the rest is the same. The 's' in the model denotes a solid spruce top: a classy touch that those experienced in models like this know is a very classy touch. The grain is tight and beautiful; it's a really nice top and it looks and sounds all the better for having a few miles on the clock. There's other deluxe appointments too: Yamaha's own PAF-style pickups, deluxe ebony board, splittable coils... it really has a whole lot of class and sophistication. The tone is just magic: warm, thick, defined, harmonically complex, great sustain... seriously good stuff. The finish has a few marks, but it's really in pretty tidy shape and has a perfect legit-vintage aesthetic. Yamaha only made about 800 of these total, so it might be the last one we get for a long time. Fall in love forever!

Model: Yamaha SA-1800
Made: Japan, 1982 (best estimate on serial and catalog, serial 097304)
Finish: brown sunburst gloss over spruce/maple
Body: solid spruce top, laminate maple back and sides, semi-hollow with center block, thinline
Neck: maple, rosewood fretboard, moderately slim profile
Weight: 3.8kg
Mods: none
Pickups: original Yamaha humbuckers, coil-splittable
Case: none

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. There's some dings behind the bridge and around the binding near the strap pin. There's some shallow scratches on the back, as well as a couple of checking lines and a cure little scratch above the pickups on the front. There's a little bit of 'clouding' in a couple of spots like the top horn. The binding has yellowed a lot, the chrome parts have aged but all work fine. Overall: good condition (7.5/10).

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, intonation is good, action is low, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Frets have some wear but are in reasonable shape, 6.5/10. Setup with fresh 11/49s. Serious player!
