Yamaha SL-700S Studio Lord Brown Sunburst 1979

Yamaha SL-700S Studio Lord Brown Sunburst 1979

Yamaha SL-700S Studio Lord, brown sunburst, made in Japan 1979. The Studio Lord series was Yamaha's take on the classic Les Paul shape, made from 1976-82. This model was a couple of rungs above the most basic in the series, so you get some nice ingredients: a high grade mahogany body and an ebony fretboard. It feels fantastic in the hands, with a comfy moderate neck, resonant body and reliable hardware holding everything down nicely. The tone is bright and open for a Les-style, with plenty of bell-like clarity on the neck pickup and a wide, creamy midrange on the bridge. The burst finish has mellowed beautifully over the decades and looks super classy with a bit of honest play on the clock. There's a lot to like here, it's very good indeed.
